MateUp Event Connection ('MateUp", "we", "us") is a realtime nightlife connection app that lets users discover and connect with other attendees at live events.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Account & Profile

  •   Email address and password (for authentication)
  •   First name, age, and gender
  •   Connection preference (who you want to see: women, men, or everyone) — this is used only for internal matching logic and is never displayed to other users
  •   Profile photos: one mandatory main photo and one optional vibe photo
  •   Selected vibe badges (personality labels you choose)
  •   Push notification token (to send you relevant alerts)


Location Data

  •   Real-time GPS coordinates, collected when:
  •   You check in to a venue (to verify you are within the venue radius)
  •   The app monitors your proximity to upcoming or active venues (approximately every 30 seconds while the app is running) to notify you when you are nearby
  •   You are inside a live venue session (to verify continued presence every 30 seconds)

Location data is used in real time only. It is not permanently stored on our servers beyond the duration of the session.


Event & Interaction Data

  •   Vibe signals (interest sent to other users during PreArrival or live venue)
  •   Mutual vibes / connections
  • formed at events
  •   Badge-based chat messages (location/time badges, optional freeform text in fields, optional camera photos sent in chat)
  •   Venue check-in records
  •   QR code scans and venue code entries (used only at the moment of check-in to validate; not stored after verification)


Ratings & Reviews

  •   Venue ratings (music/sound and atmosphere, 1-5 stars)
  •   Optional written review text


Safety & Moderation

  •   Block records (who you have blocked)
  • User reports submitted by or about you

How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to provide and improve MateUp:
  •   Create and manage your account
  •   Show your profile to other attendees at the same venue (only if you opt in during PreArrival, or when you are checked in to a live venue)
  •   Verify your physical presence at a venue via GPS before granting access to live features
  •   Send push notifications about nearby venues, mutual vibes, and meeting invitations
  •   Enable badge-based chat between users who have formed a mutual vibe and are both physically at the venue

  •   Provide anonymous venue ratings to organizers to help improve event quality
  •   Enforce safety features (blocking, reporting, account suspension)
  •   Export your data upon request

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

  • Contract performance: processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for
  • Legitimate interest: safety moderation, fraud prevention, and service improvement
  • Consent: location access, push notifications, and optional features (e.g., PreArrival visibility)

Data Retention

Different types of data have different retention periods:
  •   Profile data (name, photos, badges, preferences): retained until you delete your account
  •   Event data (vibes/interests, mutual vibes/connections, chat messages, check-in records,
  • PreArrival visibility): automatically and permanently deleted when the venue event ends
  •   Venue ratings and reviews: retained until you delete your account. Ratings are not ephemeral — they contribute to long-term venue quality data
  •   Location data: used in real time only; not permanently stored on our servers
  • Block and report records: retained for safety purposes until you delete your account

Your GDPR Rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
  •   With other users: your profile (name, age, gender, photos, badges) is visible to other checked-in users at the same venue, or to PreArrival users if you opt in
  •   With venue organizers: anonymous, aggregated venue rating data only (no personal identifiers)
  •   With our backend provider:

OnSpace Cloud (Supabase-compatible infrastructure), which stores data on EU-based servers compliant with GDPR

• When required by law: if compelled by a valid legal obligation

Age Requirement

MateUp is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect or process personal data from individuals under 18. If you believe a minor has created an account, please contact us immediately.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures:
  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure authentication managed by OnSpace Cloud
  • Row-level database security policies (each user can only access their own data)
  • Regular dependency and security updates

Account Suspension

You can temporarily suspend your account at any time from your Profile settings:
  • Your profile is hidden from all' browsing and search features
  • You cannot send or receive vibes while suspended
  • Your data is preserved and not deleted
  • You can reactivate at any time

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes via in-app notice. The date of the most recent revision is shown at the top of this document.
